USC Viterbi School of Engineering Professors Yolanda Gil and Craig Knoblock of USC’s Information Sciences Institute have been honored as 2021 Fellows of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), the world’s largest technical professional organization for the advancement of technology.
Dr. Gil is Research Professor of Computer Science and Spatial Sciences and Principal Scientist at USC Information Sciences Institute. Last year, she was named ISI’s director for major strategic initiatives in AI and data science. IEEE recognized her “for contributions to geoscience and scientific discovery with intelligent workflow systems.”
Dr. Knoblock is Research Professor of Computer Science and Spatial Sciences and Keston Executive Director of the Information Sciences Institute. He is recognized by the IEEE “for contributions to semantic data integration techniques.”
The rank of IEEE Fellow is the highest grade of membership at the organization, and comprises fewer than 0.1% of voting IEEE members. The IEEE Board of Directors confers the Fellow status to individuals with an outstanding record of accomplishments in any of the following areas: Engineering, Computer Sciences and Information Technology, Physical Sciences, Biological and Medical Sciences, Mathematics, Technical Communications, Education, Management, and Law and Policy.
