The American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) has elected three USC faculty to become AAAS Fellows in 2021: Professor Andrea Armani  and Dean Yannis Yortsos of the Viterbi School of Engineering, and Professor Mark Humayun of the Keck School of Medicine and Viterbi.

Being named a Fellow is one of the AAAS’s highest honors. In a Jan. 26, 2022, announcement Dr. Sudip S. Parikh, AAAS chief executive officer, stated, “AAAS is proud to honor these individuals who represent the kind of forward thinking the scientific enterprise needs, while also inspiring hope for what can be achieved in the future.”

  • Andrea Armani is the vice dean of new initiatives at the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the Ray R. Irani Chair in Chemical Engineering and Materials Science.
  • Yannis Yortsos is the dean of the USC Viterbi School of Engineering and the Zohrab Kaprelian Chair in Engineering.
  • Mark S. Humayun is the Cornelius J. Pings Chair in Biomedical Sciences and University Professor of Ophthalmology, Biomedical Engineering and Cell and Neurobiology at the Keck School of Medicine of USC and the USC Viterbi School of Engineering; director of the USC Ginsburg Institute for Biomedical Therapeutics; and co-director of the USC Roski Eye Institute, Keck Medicine of USC.
