The report highlights the role patents and IP play in academic research and innovation. Released annually by the NAI, the Top 100 Worldwide Universities List ranks the top universities holding U.S. utility patents to showcase the important research and innovation taking place within academic institutions. The Academy has been releasing the rankings based on calendar year data provided by the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) since 2013.
