Careers

USC is one of the world’s leading private research universities. The institution has more than $1 billion in annual research expenditures and has increased its growth strategy by emphasizing collaboration across multiple disciplines to address key societal needs. When you choose the technology transfer career path, you become part of the innovation ecosystem built to support researchers advancing breakthrough technologies and entrepreneurs launching startup companies. It is a rewarding path for those who enjoy working with world-class researchers and inventors in an academic setting. Each day working in a technology transfer office is a day of potentially saving lives and making the world a better place.

Innovation Intern Program

Are you a USC graduate student interested in marketing and the commercialization of academic technology? The USC Stevens Center serves as a university-wide resource that works to move discoveries of researchers from lab to market. We are looking for USC graduate students to support efforts in marketing new technologies, assessing IP protection strategies, and assisting with licensing agreements. Interns will be mentored by a licensing manager and work in an entrepreneurial setting at the Credit Union Building at UPC.

Applications for Summer 2026 internships will be reviewed in late March or early April. This is a paid internship and requires 5 hours a week for at least one semester. Interns will be paired with a licensing manager and receive training and mentorship in these functions:

  • Technology market analysis
  • Marketing campaign
  • Patentability and copyright analysis
  • Negotiation of IP agreements such as options, licenses, CDAs and IIAs
