TEDxUSC 2011
Actions Speak Louder
Next Generation Internet Launched at TEDxUSC
 |
On April 12, 2011, the University of Southern California hosted the third annual TEDxUSC conference in the Bovard Auditorium. USC is committed to nurturing a culture of innovation on campus. As part of that charter we challenge people with fresh thinkers and startling ideas. TEDxUSC creates a day of serendipity, presenting a wide range of new ideas from different disciplines, and unique opportunities for interesting people to connect with each other. |
|
The theme for TEDxUSC 2011 was “Actions Speak Louder”– To us, that meant a call to action to our audience and society at large that we need ‘all hands on deck’ to solve the grand challenges of our time.
The aspiration of TEDxUSC is to empower the individuals to seek out, collaborate, and explore with like other, curious and motivated, potential and current, innovators, regardless of geography or socioeconomic status, and stimulate collective action that will effectively transform inspiration into impact; the end game being a new renaissance in innovation that propels our civilization to new heights.
Through this program USC has created an atmosphere for guests to check out from the day-to-day routine and enter an afternoon of intellectual adventure.
TEDxUSC is a self-organized, invitation only event featuring a fast-paced afternoon of rapid-fire stimulation and thought-provoking content.

Interactive Game and Demo Lounge
The TEDxUSC reception immediately follows the formal program. Taking place at Town & Gown, just a short walk from Bovard, the reception is a highlight of the event, chock-full of interactive and highly engaging art installations, progressive media demos and other hands-on experiences.
In 2010 GamePro Media and the Princeton Review partnered to list the top eight university undergraduate and graduate video game design programs in North America: USC claimed the number one spot. And just recently, USC was named #1 in video game design again in 2011. To highlight the creativity, innovative thinking, and success of USC's video game design programs, TEDxUSC was proud to present the USC Video Game lounge.

| WHAT IS TEDx? |
 |
|
|
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TED has created a program called TEDx.
TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. Our event is called TEDxUSC, where x=independently organized TED event. At our TEDxUSC event, TEDTalks video and live speakers will combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group.
The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events, icluding ours are self-organized. |

TED is a small nonprofit devoted to Ideas Worth Spreading. It started out (in 1984) as a conference bringing together people from three worlds: Technology, Entertainment, Design. Since then its scope has become ever broader. Along with the annual TED Conference in Long Beach, California, and the TEDGlobal conference in Oxford UK, TED includes the award-winning TEDTalks video site, the Open Translation Program, the new TEDx community program, this year's TEDIndia Conference and the annual TED Prize.
