ReThinking Energy PLEASE NOTE: DUE TO STORMS FORECAST FOR FRIDAY, APRIL 10, THE I-VENT HAS BEEN CANCELED.
Where there are great challenges, there is great opportunity for innovation.
The 2009 I-VENT is about empowering innovation at USC in the face of today’s challenges: by themselves or with a team, students are encouraged to develop an idea that will help society rethink energy.
The 2009 I-VENT is a one-day event, open to all USC students - undergrad, grad, or PhD, in every school, from both campuses. Starting at 10 am on Friday, April 10, 2009 in the McCarthy Quad at the USC University Park Campus, the student or student team will have 6 hours to gather and create or present their team's idea. Prepared projects are encouraged, but not required; teams or individuals can participate day-of with a limited supply of raw, recycled, and donated materials provided at the event. (Since it's just a few days before Earth Day, the use of recycled materials in the creation of projects is recommended!) However, the goal is to overcome the limits of the materials, and successful teams will use whatever resources available to them to "innovate to save the Earth" by uniquely creating their team's vision of rethinking energy.
Students are encouraged to think far outside the box - whether the entry is a business plan, a building, a flux capacitor, or a short film - anything goes; the more innovative, the better! Students are also permitted to display work that may already be in process, such as a class project or a thesis topic. Students and their teams will be judged in four categories - Movement, Productivity, Life, and Power - with one Overall Winner. Prizes will be awarded to the Overall Winner, and the Winners and Runners-up of each category. Additionally, student participants can vote for the People's Choice award.
Students or student teams wishing to pre-register in order to reserve their team's spot on McCarthy Quad may do so with this online form. Pre-registration will remain open until the day before the event. Questions may be sent to USCILC@gmail.com.
There will be a mixer and informational meeting on Wednesday, April 1 at 6:30 pm in SLH 200 for those of you who are interested in and have questions about the I-VENT. We hope to see you there!
