Innovative Startup Ideas Sought for Next Student Innovator Showcase

USC student entrepreneurs have an opportunity to compete for thousands of dollars to fund their startup ideas, as the USC Stevens Center for Innovation is launching its call for applications this April for the 10th Annual Student Innovator Showcase.

The Student Innovator Showcase is USC Stevens’ annual flagship event where USC students pitch and present their inventions, startup ideas and prototypes in all disciplines to faculty and leaders from the local venture, entrepreneur and business community, competing for thousands of dollars in USC-sponsored prizes. Concepts can be anything with the potential for impact, from a smartphone app to a breakthrough medical device. The deadline to apply to be in the Showcase is September 2, 2016. The competition is open to all current USC undergraduate and graduate students and the application will be available online at http://stevens.usc.edu/events/student-innovator-showcase.

The Student Innovator Showcase will take place Friday, October 7, 2016 at Trojan Family Weekend on USC’s University Park Campus. Applicants who are accepted into the showcase will receive pitch and presentation training prior to the competition. The event will also feature a keynote speaker who is a prominent entrepreneur and business leader. Last year, the event’s keynote speaker was Jon Kraft, co-founder of Pandora Media.

Since the competition’s inception in 2007, USC Stevens has awarded over $86,000 to students at the Student Innovator Showcase. At the last showcase in October 2015, 24 student teams competed for over $25,000 in awards. Six USC student teams won prizes for the following award categories: most innovative, best business concept, global impact, most potentially disruptive, venture validation, and the Trojan Family Choice popular vote award.
