Overview

Empowering USC Innovators to Make Societal Impact

USC Stevens provides the USC community with help to transform ideas into tangible societal impact.

We focus on developing, supporting and nurturing both the innovator, and the innovation, to ensure USC researchers and students are prepared to advance their ideas, now and in the future.

Any innovation with potential for societal impact across the University is welcome, whether it's through commercialization, start-up, licenses, new products or services, or even non-profits and new organizational models.

We look for ideas that meet the following criteria:

  • High novelty
  • Opportunity for societal impact
  • Enthusiasm of innovator/team
  • Appropriate balance between ambition and likelihood of success

Cross-Functional Teams Approach

It takes many committed people to bring an idea to life. So, USC Stevens created a network of those very people, structuring our team to support innovators at every stage of advancement, and in every area needed. Selected innovators will receive specialized support in areas like IP protection, innovation development, marketing/communications as appropriate, with programs based on the unique needs for each.

Our first theme area, Arts and Media, has been designed to empower innovators working such cutting-edge arenas as video-gaming, peer-to-peer technologies, cinematic arts, and digital entertainment, as well as those in more traditional arts and media

"The greatest innovation advancement we do to make an impact on society occurs every May, when we graduate thousands of future innovators from USC."

Krisztina Holly,
Vice Provost and Executive Director of USC Stevens
