Houston’s career as a restaurateur began in the 1980s with Q’s Billiard Clubs. At the age of 26, the young entrepreneur opened Q’s in West Los Angeles. It quickly filled a niche in the L.A. landscape. He opened another Q’s in Old Town Pasadena in 1992 just as the area was entering its redevelopment phase. Then another on the popular State Street, in the heart of Santa Barbara. In addition to Q’s Billiards’, David purchased Barney’s Beanery, Los Angeles, when a realtor’s flier landed in his mailbox offering it for sale. In 2004, Houston opened Barney’s Beanery-West in the Third Street Promenade in Santa Monica.
